Philippe Dro, Chief Executive Officer; Board Member
Philippe Dro joined Glycovaxyn as Chief Executive Officer and member of the Supervisory Board in May 2008. He has 20 years entrepreneurial experience in the life science industry, including pharma, biotech and medtech companies.
Most recently, he was Chairman and CEO of Endoart SA, a medtech company developing telemetric driven implants for cardiac disease and obesity, that was sold to Allergan, Inc. From 1999 to 2003, Dr Dro was Chief Operating Officer (COO) and part of the founding team of AXOVAN AG, a GPCR focused drug discovery company, that grew the company to a clinical-stage entity which was acquired by Actelion Ltd. Prior to this, he held the position of COO and director of the Board of Antares Pharma, Inc (AMEX: AIS), a drug delivery company formed by the merger of Permatec Group and Mediject, Inc. He also held executive director positions at Skyepharma Ltd during its listing on the LSE and in finance at Sandoz Pharma AG (now Novartis).
Dr Dro earned a Pharm D from University of Grenoble (France) and an MBA jointly from Ecole Supérieure de Commerce de Lyon (France) and Cranfield School of Management (UK).
Michael Wacker, Co-founder, Chief Technology Officer; Board member
Michael Wacker co-founded GlycoVaxyn in 2004 and is now responsible for its technology and product development, as well as development collaborations.
He invented GlycoVaxyn´s technology with Professor Markus Aebi at the Institute of Microbiology of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) during his PhD and post-doctoral research. He is the author of several publications in international scientific journals, including Science and PNAS. He graduated in biochemistry from the ETH in Zurich.
Urs Tuor, Co-founder, Head of Corporate Development
Urs Tuor co-founded GlycoVaxyn in 2004 and is now responsible for its corporate development. He was previously a chemicals sector analyst at the private Swiss investment bank, Bank Sarasin.
Prior to his career in industry, he directed applied research at the Institute of Microbiology of the ETH, addressing the biological control of insect agricultural pests using fungal pathogens. He started his academic career as an organic chemist and switched to biology during his PhD at the Institute of Biotechnology at the ETH in Zurich.
Michel Gréco – Chairman of the Board
Michel Gréco was appointed Chairman of GlycoVaxyn´s Board in July 2007. He has over 35 years of experience in the pharmaceuticals industry, with an emphasis on vaccines. Most recently, he served, first as President and Chief Operating Officer, and later as deputy CEO, at Aventis Pasteur, until 2003. From 1994 to 1998, he helped establish and also served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Pasteur Merieux MSD, a joint venture between Merck & Co and Pasteur Merieux Connaught. Mr. Gréco has served as President of the European Vaccine Manufacturers, Chairman of the IFPMA´s (International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers & Associations) biological group and as a member of the World Health Organization's Strategic Advisory Group of Experts. He also serves on the board of directors of Vaxgen (USA), is Chairman of Intercell (Austria) and is a member of the board of several private companies as well as of international non-profit institutions.
Mr. Gréco received a Master's degree from the Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris and an MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business Administration at the University of Western Ontario.
Graziano Seghezzi, Vice-chairman of the Board, Sofinnova Partners, Paris
Graziano Seghezzi is a Partner at Sofinnova Partners, which he joined in 2006. Previously, he spent three years at Index Ventures in Geneva. During that time, he was a founding investor and board member of Aegerion Pharmaceuticals Inc and Hamilton Pharmaceuticals Inc and a board member of AlgoRx Pharmaceuticals Inc. Prior to joining Index, he worked for Sofinnova Partners in Milan assessing investment opportunities in the Italian life sciences.
After graduating from the University of Pavia in genetics and microbiology, he spent five years as a biomedical researcher at New York University's School of Medicine. He also has an MBA from RSM Erasmus University.

Francesco de Rubertis, Board member, General Partner, Index Ventures, Geneva
Francesco de Rubertis is the General Partner at Index Ventures responsible for its life sciences practice. He joined Index in 1998 and has served on the board of several companies including Cellzome, 7TM, ParAllele Bioscience, BioXell and GeneBio.
Prior to joining Index, he was involved in post-doctoral research in genetics at the Whitehead Institute, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He is also the author of several publications in international scientific journals including Nature. He has a BA in Genetics and Microbiology from the University of Pavia and a PhD in Molecular Biology from the University of Geneva. He is also a CFA charter holder.
